FALLOW BUCK
About Our Fallow
Established in the late 1800s through a series of acclimatisation releases, fallow deer adapted exceptionally well to New Zealand’s diverse landscapes. From rolling farmland and river valleys to rugged hill country and native bush, the country provided ideal habitat for these highly adaptable deer to flourish.
Over generations, New Zealand’s fallow herds have developed a reputation for producing mature bucks with excellent palmation, clean symmetry, and rich coloration. Strong genetics, fertile soils, and abundant year-round feed contribute to the quality of animals found throughout the country. Mature bucks often carry well-defined palms and strong back points, making them some of the most sought-after trophies in the Southern Hemisphere. Today, fallow deer remain one of New Zealand’s most popular and rewarding game animals, prized for both their trophy potential and the unique hunting experience they offer.

The King's Trophy Deer
The Hunt
The rut, which peaks in the second half of April, is the most exciting time to chase Fallow Bucks.
As autumn colours settle across the landscape, mature bucks establish territories and fill the cool morning air with their distinctive Croaking calls. This is when behaviour changes, movement increases, and opportunities come together.
We have access to a 36,000 acre free range property with great fallow hunting and great numbers of fallow deer. Fallow bucks in this area deliver great free range trophies.
We also have fallow deer on a game estate where large trophies can be taken.

A Destination Worth the Journey
New Zealand’s reputation as a premier hunting destination is built on its wild landscapes, abundant game, and welcoming culture. Fallow deer provide an accessible and rewarding hunt, whether as a standalone adventure or as part of a multi species combo hunt. The combination of scenery and opportunity makes hunting fallow deer here an experience that hunters return for time and again.
For those seeking a true Free range or Estate adventure in breathtaking country, New Zealand Fallow deer hunting delivers, challenge and lasting memories.
